The island of Ruissalo is both an island of the Finnish archipelago and a neighborhood of the city of Turku. The island is located southwest of the city, between the island of Hirvensalo and the district of Pansio de Turku. There are about 150 inhabitants on the island according to the figures of 2007. There is one of the largest oak forests in Finland. Many parts of the island are protected. The island is also known by a large number of people for its rock music festival: the Ruisrock. It was created in 1970 and is the longest lasting rock festival with the Pinkpop festival in the Netherlands. Great names of music have succeeded on the stages of this festival as: The Clash (1979), U2 (1982), The Cure (1985), Soundgarden, Bob Dylan, Midnight Oil (1990), Nirvana (1992), David Bowie (1997), Paramore (2011), The Offspring (2014) ...
This year, the festival will be celebrate July 6th-8th, 2018 at the national park of Ruissalo in Turku, Finland. Artist for 2018 include The Chainsmokers (US), Marshmello, N.E.R.D (US), Dua Lipa (UK), Cheek, Alan Walker (NO), Clean Bandit (UK), First Aid Kit (SE), Silvana Imam (SE), Tyler, The Creator (US), Princess Nokia (US), Years & Years (UK), Alma, Disco Ensemble, and Sunrise Avenue.
In the summer of 2017 Ruisrock attracted a record audience of 105 000 festival goers and was sold out.
