We are exchange student in Turku University of Applied Sciences (TUAS) which is the city of 40.000 students and six higher education institutions. It’s a multidisciplinary higher education institution. In Turku there is around 9.300 students in the campus of TUAS. The University was established in 1992. The Rector is M. Vesa Taatila. It is a public school and there are two campuses : one in Tuku, the second in Salo. So, we are in Turku, to study several courses.
First there Mechanical courses which are divided in four lessons: Basics of mechanic, which we learn all the basics for two other courses. The two others are Processing and Selection of materials. There are a lot of handling work. For example for the Selection of material courses, we have to do six laboratory tests on different materials. We also have Circular Economy lesson’s and a project called Capstone project. This project is made by team of around ten students and is demanded by a company. So this is very professional and we can learn a lot. School is also different from Esaip campus, the Turkuamk campus is bigger than our school in France. There are a cafeteria, a library. The school system is also different, for example we have two days in the week dedicated to our project, and we have a lot of time to do our different tasks for each courses. Another difference is that teachers let us learn by ourselves. For example, for our laboratory tests we have at first just access to the user manual of the machine. Then we can ask for help from other groups because some information is not translated into English which causes us problems of understanding. But despite everything, I think that this mode of learning is beneficial for us because we remember what we have done.
