It wouldn't be serious from us if I don't say a word about the cathedral. First it's the principal and even the first Turku's visiting site and secondly because I have the chance to admire it every day thanks to my Airbnb apartment. Indeed I'm situated in a nearby street (Hämeenkatu), on the fifth floor so it's a kind of every morning rendezvous to say hello to Finland.
Turku cathedral is the mother church of the Lutheran Church of Finland and the country's national sanctuary. With its height of 102 meters, the cathedral is regarded as one of the major records of Finnish architectural history. Regarding it, we have to show respect as we speak to an old woman, in fact this edifice is more than seven hundred years. So as you can guess this church live through many things and got its own experiences. Despite the "Great Fire of Turku" in 1827 which destroyed a large part of the town I think that actually the cathedral is doing well.
It's in a constant use first and foremost for divine worship and it also frequently used for musical events. After making few steps inside two things caught our attention. The first one is the altarpiece which depict the Transfiguration of Christ and which was painted by the sewidsh artist Fredrik Westinin in 1836. The other one situated across from the previous and if we raise our eyes is the 81-stop organ installed in 1980.

This is more or less all the informations that I remember and I'm grateful to greet it every day.
