Before our departure, we have made some research about Finland and Turku. This research are made to minimize the culture shock and to be more knowledgeable about our host country.
First of all, Finland is a Northern European country of 338 424 square kilometers and there is 5,5 millions of inhabitants. The capital city of Finland is Helsinki. In the country, there are two languages. The first one is Finnish (91.5%) and the second is Swedish (46.6%). The National Day is December 6.
The contrasts between France and Finland are not huge. Indeed, the difference are that in Finland, people often go to the Sauna. The educational system is also different than in France. People are also more polite, a little more individualist and not very spontaneous.
Turku is the city in which we are going to study. Turku is in the South of the country and at the West of Helsinki. There are 184 300 inhabitants in the city. There are many Gothic Cathedrale and one Castle. Our University is the Turku University of Applied Sciences (TUAS), who was created in 1992. There are 9 300 students into. The courses that we will following will be Innovation Project, Bioinformatic, Material Technologies and English.
During our stay, we want to visit different place and different country. We want to go to Lapland to see Aurora Borealis but also in Saint Petersburg and to go to different capital in the North of Europe.
